Common questions

Can I get my data back if I delete the app?

Unfortunately, no. All data is stored locally on your device with no cloud backup. If you delete the app, your data is permanently removed. We strongly recommend using the Export Data feature in Settings regularly, and enabling iCloud Backup or iTunes/Finder backup on your device.

Why does my projected balance differ from my real bank balance?

Dollars & Pence's projection engine calculates a future balance based on recurring agreements (direct debits, standing orders, salary) and any transactions you've entered. It won't match your bank exactly unless you keep your transactions up to date. The "balance" figure always reflects completed transactions only — pending and projected amounts are shown separately.

Why is a payment showing on the wrong date?

Dollars & Pence automatically shifts payments that fall on weekends based on the agreement settings. If an agreement is set to "weekday only", payments on Saturday or Sunday move to the following Monday. If set to "before weekend", they move to the preceding Friday. You can also add bank holidays in Settings → Bank Holidays to have those dates treated the same way.

Does Dollars & Pence connect to my bank?

No. Dollars & Pence is entirely manual entry. It does not connect to any bank or financial institution. Your data never leaves your device.

How do I transfer data to a new phone?

The safest method is to restore from an iCloud or iTunes/Finder backup when setting up your new device. Alternatively, use the Export Data feature in Settings to save a backup file, then import it on your new device using Import Data.

What currencies are supported?

Dollars & Pence supports 24 currencies and allows you to set manual exchange rates between them. You can set a default display currency in Settings → Currency.
